Classic Rock Bands - History of Classic Rock
Classic rock music is music in history created between the years 1960 and 1990. These bands are popular among many different age groups. The overall style of classic rock music varies greatly from band to band.
The music was extremely popular in the United States and Great Britain during that time period. The bands were notorious for their wild style, flash playing and drug abuse.
Great classic rockers like Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin were eventually destroyed by their addictions. The actual music itself could be anything from the psychedelic sounds of the grateful dead, to the Latin influenced jams of Carlos Santana.
Classic rock is a very loose term, spanning many styles, times, places, and people. Even certain bands within the genre (like The Beatles) had very varied musical arrangements.
The Classic rock genre began shortly after the popularization of the blues. Blues music opened the door for many bands to get their start. The Beatles, a British rock group started in 1960, also helped to revolutionize the music scene and helped create many more musical possibilities. The Rolling stones were another such revolutionary band, formed in 1962, putting out 24 studio albums in the U.S. since the band’s formation.
The grateful dead were another band of the era, however very different from others of the time. Their fan base would follow them on tour for years. People would quit their jobs to follow them around the world. They got their start as The Warlocks in Menlo Park CA, playing shows at Kepler’s Books. After meeting with Ken kesey in Palo Alto, CA, they became the house band for the Acid Tests.
Rock and roll music will live on forever as a testament to the power of music, bands, and sound.
Classic rock bands changed the world Forever.
